Compuware Software Testing Empowerment Programme (STEP)The STEP Academy is part of Compuware's Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) strategy to confirm our commitment to being actively involved in the transformation process in South Africa. Compuware identified Academy programmes to be the most effective way for Compuware to inject their ISETT Skills Development Levy refunds back into the IT Industry and promote ongoing skills development. The STEP Academy is a 3-month programme of which 2.5 months are focused on intensive technical product training (Testing skills and products) and 11 days of Business Orientation Skills training. The Technical training consists of around 2 days of theory and 3 days practical (exercises) per week. Compuware is currently running the third STEP Academy, which started on 20 September 2004 and will end with a graduation ceremony on 10 December 2004. This academy sees, for the first time, a full contingent of women. The first STEP Academy was from August 2003 to October 2003. The selection of the 12 PDI (previously disadvantaged individuals) students
per Academy includes technical tests and discus profiles to ensure the
success of the STEP programme. The selection criteria also includes a
programming background (C++, VB). Compuware provides accommodation, transport
and meals to all students for the full duration of the programme. Each
student also receives a monthly training allowance to pay for other incidentals.
