Return on investment (ROI) - particularly IT investment - has become the watchword of most CIOs around the world. Now, there's a way in which companies can achieve ROI of up to 1 500 percent, according to an independent report published by leading research firm, Gartner.
Gartner conducted research into the productivity and ROI benefits of service-oriented application development methods and concluded with the recommendation that organisations "strongly consider adopting" architected, rapid application development (ARAD) solutions over traditional development processes and technologies.
Mike Blechar, Gartner Vice President said:"As mainstream software development organisations seek to increase productivity, while leveraging teams comprising mixed skill sets, many are turning to tools that include pre-built and reusable frameworks with architectural and design patterns that can generate between 60 and 85 percent of an application's code."
He believes that the ARAD approach holds significant promise for productivity gains, overall cost savings and the consistent delivery of high-quality, reusable software assets.
"Compuware is one of the first and most experienced major vendors
using ARAD to automate design models into code. Compuware's OptimalJ model-driven,
pattern-based enterprise development solution, delivers on the productivity
promises of ARAD by helping organisations rapidly respond to business
change, increase development efficiency and dramatically decrease maintenance
costs," he concludes.
