Compuware Extends Vantage Application Performance Analysis to Support Both .NET and Java

Compuware Corporation has enhanced its application service management solution, Compuware Vantage, by introducing full-time monitoring and root cause analysis for .NET applications. These additions supplement Compuware Vantage's already powerful support for Java applications and round out Compuware's web services solution, enabling unique, end-to-end, transaction-level support for hybrid .NET and Java applications. In addition, Compuware Vantage now provides a fully automated expert analysis that offers problem-resolution recommendations.

"Most of our application performance problems involve complex interrelationships between applications, servers and the network," said Eric Foote, Chief Technical Architect, CareTech Solutions and Server Manager at the Detroit Medical Center. "Compuware Vantage's comprehensive toolset for debugging and tuning application issues enables us to quickly isolate the source of the problem and engage the proper IT or vendor resources to quickly resolve the problem."

In many organisations today, IT managers lack the visibility into complex interrelationships and rely on silo-focused tools and processes. According to Milind Govekar, Research Vice President, Gartner. "Approximately 40 percent of service downtime is caused by application-related failures, and is even higher for the newer generation of service-oriented architecture applications. IT organisations need to get better at managing the full life cycle of applications. Application Management needs to be a specific activity requiring specialised experience and skills, ideally spanning the plan, build and run stages of an application."

New capabilities in Compuware Vantage improve IT's ability to work collaboratively to quickly resolve application performance problems and deliver the highest service levels. Through the analysis of .NET and Java applications, improved cross-silo collaboration, faster root-cause analysis, reduced problem resolution costs and freed up IT staff, Compuware Vantage provides a single-vendor application service management solution with rapid ROI.

The new ability of Compuware Vantage to deliver deep performance analysis of both Java and .NET applications enables IT to trace a hybrid application front to back for quick problem resolution. Additionally, Compuware Vantage continually captures and analyses application performance characteristics to give-with low production overhead-call-level visibility and isolation into the inner workings of Java and .NET applications.

The new expert analysis feature speeds application recovery with meaningful information that facilitates cooperation between application developers and operations teams. Based on an expert system, Compuware Vantage generates a comprehensive performance analysis report for a selected transaction. The resulting highly polished MS Word document clearly identifies the application bottleneck at both detail and summary levels, and then presents the findings with Executive Summary, Conclusions and Recommendations, and Results and Discussion sections.

"Compuware Vantage excels at quickly identifying performance bottlenecks and providing the information necessary to resolve the problems," said Lloyd Bloom, Compuware Product Manager. "In this release, our focus has been on expanding our depth of analysis for Web services and in improving the communication bridge between the operations team and the application development team. Our customers can count on Compuware to continually lead in this area."

Compuware Vantage is an application service management solution that helps IT organisations manage application performance from the perspective that matters most: that of the end-user. Vantage delivers the most robust end-user monitoring solution in the industry with integrated, end-to-end performance analysis. Its unique network insight from the application's view enables the deepest understanding of a transaction's performance for accurate root cause analysis. With Compuware Vantage, IT can proactively react to changes in the production environment and quickly resolve problems before service levels degrade and the business is impacted.
